Distinguished Belarusians honored with state awards

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko presented state awards to distinguished Belarusians on 7 May.

The awarding ceremony is timed to the significant date – the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. It gives special importance and deep meaning to the ceremony, the head of state noted. “Outstanding achievements of our citizens, the achievements of our state and even the existence of sovereign Belarus rely on this great and momentous event,” the President emphasized.

State decorations were bestowed upon representatives of veterans' organizations from all over Belarus. Aleksandr Lukashenko presented the Order of Fatherland 3rd Class to Viktor Kostko, first deputy chairman of the council of the Minsk City organization of veterans of the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans (BPAV).

The Orders of Honor were bestowed upon chairman of the Brest District organization of the BPAV Piotr Bryuzgin, chairperson of the veterans organization of housing maintenance department No. 17 of the Pervomaisky District of Vitebsk of the BPAV Tatyana Zabello, chairman of the veterans' committee of the Armed Forces and healthcare bodies – deputy chairman of the national council of the BPAV Yevgeny Mikulchik, chairperson of the council of the Krichev District organization of veterans of the BPAV Zinaida Skachkova, chairman of the Grodno City organization of veterans of the BPAV Boris Skobelev, participant of the Great Patriotic War Vasily Khursan.

The Medal for Excellent Labor was presented to chairperson of the Borisov District veterans' organization of the BPAV Zoya Makhanek.

“Many of you have gone through the ordeals of war and dedicated many years of active labor to the peaceful development of Belarus. You are still active today. One cannot overestimate your contribution to the patriotic education of people, first of all, of our youth. For many years you have been sharing your invaluable life experience with the youth. You have been an example for several generations of Belarusians,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The President of Belarus officially thanked first deputy chairman of the Oktyabrsky District veterans' organization of Minsk of the BPAV Alexei Detsik, chairman of the veterans' organization of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee of the BPAV YevgenyYemelyanov, first deputy chairman of the Grodno Oblast organization of the BPAV Alexander Korolenko, chairman of the committee of the Great Patriotic War veterans of the Brest Oblast organization of the BPAV Alexei Kot, chairman of the Minsk District organization of the BPAV Anatoly Moiseyev, chairman of the council of the Oktyabrsky District organization of veterans of Mogilev of the BPAV Piotr Mudragelov, chairman of the national council of the BPAV Anatoly Novikov, member of the council of the Svetlogorsk District organization of the BPAV Vladimir Popok, member of the presidium of the Belarusian public association of veterans Mikhail Shimansky for active participation in the work of veterans' organizations, ideological and patriotic education of the youth.

State decorations were conferred on a big group of Belarusian military. The Orders for Service to the Homeland 3rd Class were bestowed upon head of the 72nd guards united training center for warrant officers and junior specialists of the Armed Forces Major General Valery Gnilozub, head of the anti-aircraft missile troops and the anti-aircraft missile department of the Air Forces and the Air Defense Forces of the Armed Forces Colonel Andrei Dikanev.

Victory Day is a special holiday for the military. Those who pursue a career in the Armed Forces continue the traditions of soldiers of the Great Patriotic War, Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked and thanked the servicemen for huge professionalism. “Thank you for the efforts to preserve and enrich the best traditions of the generation of victors; and, of course, for the fact that our citizens feel secure under the peaceful sky in their native country,” the head of state added.

“The Great Victory has become a symbol of everything the Belarusian people are proud of. It was forged not only by heroic feats on the battlefield, but also by the selfless work of people in the rear. It was reached thanks to the mutual help, courage and deep humanity of people in the occupied territories,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The Belarusians managed to hold out and win only because they believed in victory and were dreaming about a peaceful and happy future for their Homeland, the President stressed. Aleksandr Lukashenko urged the successors of victors to fulfill their dream – to enhance Belarus, to make it stronger, more comfortable and beautiful. “There are no impossible tasks for the people who believe in victory and are ready to win in spite of all difficulties,” the head of state said.

In conclusion Aleksandr Lukashenko wished Happy Victory Day to all the awardees. He wished happiness and wellbeing to them.

Representatives of various professions were also decorated with state awards. The President gave the Orders of Honor to First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Mikhnevich, director of the New Materials Chemistry Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) Vladimir Agabekov, tractor driver of the agricultural company Gigant, Bobruisk District, Gennady Khursan. The Order of Francysk Skaryna was bestowed upon renowned actress of the Maxim Gorky National Academic Drama Theater Olga Denisova.

Besides, the Honored Artist of Belarus, the Honored Figure of Culture of Belarus, the Honored Scientist of Belarus, the Honored Doctor of Belarus, the Honored Worker of the Services Sector of Belarus, the Honored Worker of Interior Bodies of Belarus titles were conferred on a number of representatives of various professions.
