Belarus supports all those making a big contribution to the common good, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the ceremony to present state awards on 5 May.

At the beginning of May Belarusians celebrate important and long-awaited holidays such as Easter, Labor Day, the Day of the State Flag and Emblem, and Victory Day. According to the President, the latter is the most important state holiday. Following a good tradition, the ceremony to award distinguished Belarusians is timed to this holiday.

At the ceremony Aleksandr Lukashenko reiterated that wonderful people protecting the native land and glorifying the young sovereign state by their deeds are the main treasure of Belarus.

The generation of victors who saved the Homeland from the Nazi enslavement and who brought peace and freedom to the mankind gave a precept to protect the country’s security, the President noted. “Belarus is an island of stability in today’s troubled times, and we are truly proud of this,” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized.

This is a merit of the military who maintain the public order and tranquility in the society, guard state borders, and prevent crimes protecting the lives and property of citizens, the President continued. The best of the best representatives of law enforcement bodies were awarded orders for the service to the Homeland and medals for impeccable military service at the ceremony on 5 May.

State awards were also presented to figures of culture at the ceremony in the Palace of Independence. It is not accidental because the year 2016 has been announced the Year of Culture in Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko reminded. Therefore, the country pays special attention to art people who imbue life with beauty, spirituality, and a great diversity of feelings elevating people and bringing out the best qualities in them. “Your art deserves accolades and appreciation both in Belarus and abroad. You honorably represent various forms and genres of art which, according to great writer Honore de Balzac, is the face of the nation,” the President said addressing the figures of art attending the ceremony.

The President also awarded a big group of school and university teachers. State awards were conferred on directors of Minsk gymnasiums No. 4 and No. 13, teachers of Molodechno gymnasium No. 7 and Volozhin gymnasium No. 1 for the successful application of efficient methods in the process of education. Representatives of the Yanka Kupala Grodno State University, the Belarusian State Economic University, the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the Belarusian President, the Belarusian National Technical University, and the National Academy of Sciences were awarded for productive research and training of specialists.

Aleksandr Lukashenko praised the achievements of doctors of Minsk city hospitals No. 9 and No. 10, children’s hospital No. 3, the Minsk Oblast clinical children’s hospital. “The best representatives of the Belarusian healthcare industry deserve exceptional gratitude and respect. Taking care of the health of people is a constant priority of the state. It relies on the qualified work of all specialists, all healthcare institutions,” the President said.

The head of state stressed that the ceremony is also attended by the representatives of such industries as construction and agriculture, public administration, physical education and sport. “It means that the Homeland values and supports all those making a big contribution to the common good. Orders, medals, and honorary titles as well as honor and respect in the society always find their heroes,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The head of state wished happy holidays to those present at the ceremony and congratulated them on the awards. The President wished them to be an example to other people and encourage them to make labor and creative achievements. He also thanked the awardees for the kind words and guaranteed that the state will accumulate and use the results of their work for the benefit of the country.
