The Belarusian people value peace and stability in the country, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a ceremony to honor the graduates of the military higher education institutions and senior officers on 5 July.

“Our people, like no one other nation, value peace and stability in the country, value their safety and security. Words such as sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity mean a lot to us. It is not just politics, it is our life. The life of our parents today and the life of our children in the future,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

In order to preserve it all the state has been pursuing a peaceful multi-track foreign policy, strengthening its army and the country’s defense capacity. These approaches have been included in the country’s new military doctrine, the head of state noted.

The Belarusian leader noted that having chosen the path of service to the fatherland, officers have assumed an enormous responsibility to the country and people. “It is you who will be building up the strength of the armed forces, solving difficult and responsible tasks of ensuing state, public and border security, keep law and order in society,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

According to the head of state, the Armed Forces should focus on comprehensive enhancement of combat and mobilization readiness, the training level and cohesion of governing bodies and troops, performance of military forces and units. “You must prioritize practical training of troops with the use of modern combat methods, training for concrete defense tasks,” the President said.

The main task of officers of the interior agencies is to maintain public order in the country so that every citizen can be sure of his safety and that of their children

The head of state also noted that the role of the border agency in monitoring and anticipating potential challenges and threats to border security is increasing.

The Emergencies Ministry needs to improve its activity, the President believes. “We need fresh, balanced and reasonable ideas and proposals for the development and improving the Emergencies Ministry, optimization of control activities,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.

Belarus attaches great attention to the technological upgrade of the security and law enforcement forces. Very soon, in addition to the new Yak-130 aircraft, the Armed Forces will receive new advanced helicopters Mi-8MTV, Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The President noted that Belarus has started to manufacture missile systems. Companies of the country’s defense sector produce up-to-date radio detectors and communication equipment. The project is underway to design light-armored vehicles for the national law enforcement bodies. A satellite control center has been opened in the country. Two satellites have been put into orbit. “This shows that we can do a lot ourselves. Any country that cares about its security and defense should produce the main weapons itself. We have something to protect and, of course, we have the weapons to protect it with,” the Belarusian leader said.

When awarding general’s shoulder boards the President said that these ranks are bestowed upon the best of the best. “Not everyone can bear these ‘heavy’ shoulder boards. Live up to them. You are special people and a special responsibility lies with you. Remember what we have been destined for. We have only one duty and one goal: in difficult times we should be in the front and, if needed, die in the name of our people. We should remember this,” the head of state stressed.

Fifteen graduates of military higher education institutions received Belarus President’s commendations for academic excellence and exemplary fulfillment of the military duty. Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that the country’s authorities and the Belarusian people have confidence in their law enforcers and believe in their energy and initiative, responsibility and high professionalism.
