Aleksandr Lukashenko presents awards to outstanding Belarusians

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has presented high state awards to outstanding Belarusians.

The President commended the achievements of Belarusian scientists, and thanked them for the tireless intellectual search and the ability to find solutions to the most difficult practical problems. The high state awards were presented to representatives of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, heads of departments and institutions for the development of promising innovative ideas in such areas as nano-materials, biotechnology and new techniques in medicine. "The higher education institutions in the regions of the country where students are actively engaged in research also deserve praise,” said the Belarusian leader.

"Achievements of Belarusian science are recognized far outside our country. But the main thing is that scientific achievements find application in various sectors of the domestic economy and bring real benefits to Belarus,” the President said.

The head of state also presented the state awards to the officials who were involved in the organization of one of the most significant events this year, namely the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Minsk. “It was the first time that Belarus hosted the competition of such scale. It was not only a great honor for us but also a great responsibility. It took us a lot of effort and resources to hold it at the appropriate level,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.

The head of state stressed that the organization of the championship required well-coordinated work of many people employed in various sectors, and the results of their work was appreciated by the Minskers and guests of the capital. Belarus hosted the participants of the championship and numerous fans, ensured their safety and comfort and organized leisure activities. In the run-up to the event Minsk commissioned 14 hotels, the Chizhovka Arena sports facility, landscaped many recreational areas, and improved the city's infrastructure. 

Among the award recipients were high-ranking representatives of the Interior Ministry and the General Prosecutor's Office. They were honored in recognition of the personal contribution to the efforts to prevent crime, ensure personal and property security of citizens, and the economic security of Belarus.

The head of state praised the contribution made by BelTA’s employees to the development of information and communication services, improvement of technical facilities, expansion of partnership ties with news agencies of the CIS member states and other countries.

Among the award recipients were also artists. "I thank you for your service to art, for giving us joy and beauty, and communicating spiritual values to your readers and viewers," the President said addressing them. 

In conclusion, the head of state wished the attendees successes in their creative endeavors, and noted that despite the achievements more work still lies ahead.
