On 15 January Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko
heard out a report measures taken to minimize the impact of bad weather.
Aleksandr Lukashenko set forth a number of key tasks in mitigating the consequences of the snowstorm. He first of all demanded to restore all power supplies before the day ends.
The recent blizzard tested all the country’s transport, energy and utility services. The President emphasized that people responsible for these sectors, and especially power engineers, should work hard in order to prevent any consequences of bad weather.
Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that people actively clear snow and ice around their houses. The head of state believes that measures should be taken to encourage them and reward their efforts. The Belarusian leader gave instructions to set up hot meal stations and provide the volunteers with snow removal tools.
Besides, he stressed that workers of road-building and utility services actively involved in tackling the consequences of the snowstorm should also be rewarded.
The head of state is confident that “Belarus should be grateful for the snowstorm.” In his words, the last year’s draught brought more damage to the country. “The more snow we have today, the faster the environmental balance will be restored. It would be great to have 3-4 more cyclones of the kind,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
The President believes that “there is no need in lamenting” about big amounts of snow than covered the country. “All we need is some effort to clean up roads and yards. Our people are decent and tidy, if they are asked to help they will do it,” the head of state stressed, adding that it has always been so
