Official negotiations with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Belarus would like India to become a powerful fulcrum in the multipolar world, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko noted following the official negotiations with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“We see how Great India and the idea of the Glorious New India are merging into one in the actual implementation. We would like India to become a great powerful country. We have always promoted, proclaimed and supported the idea of multipolar world. And we want India to be a powerful fulcrum in this world,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko thanked the Indian side for the warm welcome of the Belarusian delegation. "This is the third time I have visited this beautiful country. The Belarusian delegation and I are delighted by India’s successes and its growing political and economic role in the world," the Belarusian leader said.

The President recalled that this year Belarus and India celebrated 25 years of diplomatic relations. The countries have accumulated positive experience of cooperation over this period. A special postage stamp was released on this occasion.

“I absolutely support the idea of the Indian Prime Minister that today we are witnessing a new step, new stage in our cooperation,” the head of state noted.

“Great India is impossible without your presence on the territory where Belarus is located, namely between the Eurasian Economic Union and the EU,” Aleksandr Lukashenko underlined.

The President stressed that the states have no disagreements on the international agenda. “We have agreed to strengthen cooperation within national organizations, collaborate in seeking effective and benefit-all solutions to the present-day global and regional problems,” he said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko invited Narendra Modi to visit Belarus in the near future. It was decided that a meeting of the intergovernmental commission will precede the visit of the Indian prime minister to Belarus.

“I can assure you that all our commitments will be implemented in full,” the Belarusian leader said.

Speaking about cooperation, the head of state emphasized that Belarus is ready to enable the most beneficial and preferential conditions for Indian investors.

“We are ready to provide the most beneficial and preferential conditions for your investors. We have pursued a similar policy with other countries,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

In his words, the fact that the sides started drafting an investment agreement shows their firm intentions. Aleksandr Lukashenko also promised to provide any assistance with speeding up the signing of the EAEU-India free trade agreement.

Besides, the Belarusian President invited India to set up a sci-tech industrial park in Belarus.

“I invited the prime minister of India to set up a sci-tech park on the crossroads from the east to the west and from the south to the north. The park will offer the most favorable conditions for investment. Indian companies and other companies from all over the world, if they want, will be able to launch production there and sell goods and services on the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The President also remarked that as a result of the visit the parties agreed to increase the delivery of potash fertilizers, use Belarusian ideas in the implementation of India’s Smart Towns initiative, the Qualified India program, discussed joint projects in science, culture, tourism, and other sectors.


A number of bilateral agreements were signed during the official visit of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko to India. A program of cooperation between the governments of the two countries for 2018-2020, a memorandum of understanding between the Education Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship of India on cooperation in professional and vocational training, a memorandum of understanding between the Education Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of India on cooperation in the youth policy were signed.

The Belarusian State Oil and Chemistry Concern and the Ministry of Oil and Natural Gas of India signed a memorandum on cooperation in the oil and gas sector.

The sides also signed a protocol of amendments to the agreement between the Agriculture and Food Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare of India on cooperation in agriculture of 16 April 2007.

The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the National Academy of Sciences of India signed an agreement on sci-tech cooperation. A memorandum of understanding on cooperation in education and agricultural research was signed between the BelarusianStateAgriculturalAcademy and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

Besides, heads of Belarusian Potash Company and Belzarubezhstroy exchanged documents with their Indian partners. An agreement on cooperation was concluded with Minsk Tractor Works.

The sides also initialed an investment agreement between Belarus and India.
