Meeting with Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko in UAE

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko in the United Arab Emirates on 2 November.

“Our trade and economic cooperation is increasingly vibrant. In spite of various difficulties and obstacles, our trade turnover has exceeded $3 billion. Perhaps, it makes up about $3.5 billion as of today. But we have a very good chance to expand cooperation by promoting the interaction of regions,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The Belarusian leader is convinced that the first forum of regions of Belarus and Ukraine which is expected to take place in Gomel will give a new impetus to the development of bilateral relations.

“As for the political cooperation, we do not have any problems. We are committed to the course that we have agreed to follow,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

The head of state remarked that even far from their countries the presidents found an opportunity to meet and discuss topical issues in the relations between countries. “Today we have an opportunity to discuss the issues that need an additional impulse from us. I want to assure that we have always been responsible people. If we promise something, we are doing it. I want to guarantee that we continue doing it in the future,” the Belarusian leader said.

Petro Poroshenko praised vigorous efforts to implement previous agreements concerning demarcation issues, trade and economic cooperation. “I am keeping an eye on this issue,” the Ukrainian President stressed. He was satisfied with the fact that the sides are expanding interaction in various fields, including the economy and social sector.

Aleksandr Lukashenko is in the United Arab Emirates on a working visit. He is expected to meet with UAE leaders. A number of meetings with representatives of the government and the business circles of the country will be held.

Petro Poroshenko is also paying a working visit to the UAE on 1-2 November. He has already paid an official visit to Saudi Arabia.
