Meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic

Belarus is ready to expand joint projects with Serbia in the sphere of economy, culture, and sport. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement as he met with Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic on 31 October. 

Aleksandr Lukashenko warmly welcomed Ana Brnabic. He said he was pleased to see a representative of the brotherly and friendly country of Serbia in Belarus. Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that Belarus closely follows what is going in Serbia. Belarusians worry about Serbian problems and take joy in Serbian accomplishments.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that in his speech during the meeting of the Core Group of the Munich Security Conference he mentioned the Balkans for a reason. “We are concerned about processes going on around the Balkans. We look at opinions of some politicians, including Western ones, who start openly talking about some conflict in the Balkans, about you living in a very complicated region where interests of many countries are at odds with each other,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.

“Things in Belarus are similar. We look alike,” he remarked. Speaking about good relations between the Belarusian nation and the Serbian one, Aleksandr Lukashenko assured that the state of affairs will continue. “We will always be next to you and will always stand ready to do our best,” he stressed. Aleksandr Lukashenko said he was confident that Belarus and Serbia should advance trade and economic cooperation, including by setting up joint ventures, particularly in Serbia. If the Serbian side is ready for it, Belarus is ready to also expand contacts in culture and sport.

The Serbian prime minister delivered the invitation to visit Belgrade from the Serbian head of state to his Belarusian counterpart.

She said: “You would do us a great honor if you visited our country.” She stressed that the Serbian president treats Aleksandr Lukashenko with great respect.

Ana Brnabic said she admired how sincerely, openly, and directly Aleksandr Lukashenko had talked in his speech during the meeting of the Core Group of the Munich Security Conference.

Ana Brnabic also thanked the Belarusian leader for the warm attitude towards the Serbian nation. She stressed that Aleksandr Lukashenko was the only world leader, who came to Serbia to support its people during bombing.

According to the Serbian prime minister, it is extremely important for her that she had been warmly and sincerely welcomed in Minsk.
