Decisions that will be made at the session of the Supreme State Council today should help promote the development of integration of Belarus and Russia, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the meeting with Russia President Vladimir Putin on 30 June.

“We still have a long way to go. The main thing for us is import substitution. We must prove to the whole world that we are self-sufficient nations, self-sufficient states,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “I think that the decisions that will be made at the Supreme State Council session today will help promote the development of integration of our countries into the single UnionState.”

The heads of state remarked that they took part in the plenary meeting of the 4th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia a short while ago. “There was a good event, more than 800 people (only specialists representing regions) attended the forum. This is an opportunity for specialists and chiefs at the regional level, to say nothing about us, to discuss development issues, and an opportunity to synchronize watches for us,” the Belarusian leader said.

Vladimir Putin, in turn, emphasized the importance of the 4th Forum of Regions which is aimed at developing cooperation in high technology and the information society. “This is a real attempt to look into the future,” he said. “But we also have to do a lot today. We have a broad agenda. We are very glad to see you and to discuss all avenues of cooperation in a calm working mode.”
