Address to Belarusian and Russian people on Day of Unity of Peoples of Belarus and Russia

Chairman of the Supreme State Council of the Belarus-Russia Union State, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko addressed Belarusians and Russians on the occasion of the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia.

“The Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia symbolizes unwavering commitment of our countries to long-standing friendship and common spiritual values. The inseparable heritage of the past, including the Great Victory and the hard work of several generations, was the reason behind the pivotal decision to build our future together,” the message reads.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the Union State Treaty. The President emphasized that this relatively short historical period is associated with many significant achievements across many areas of cooperation; it is filled with invaluable experience of effective solution of vitally important issues.

“Our unity relies on the principles of mutual trust and equality, and these principles allow us to pursue a coordinated foreign policy and successfully rise up to modern-day challenges and threats. The Union State construction preserves the common humanitarian space, helps intensify multifaceted cultural contacts and maintain good human relations,” the head of state noted.

He added that the Union State offers tangible benefits to millions of Belarusians and Russians. “There is no alienation between our countries; there is freedom of movement and employment, social benefits, equal access to medical care and education. It is necessary to keep expanding Belarus-Russia cooperation,” Aleksandr Lukashenko is convinced.

In his view, in order to withstand the increasing global competition, rising protectionism and isolationism, Belarus and Russia should promote their integration and decisively remove artificial barriers and restrictions in the economy, and implement ambitious projects. “I am convinced that together we will be able to do it,” the Belarusian leader emphasized.
